The MindFlash On-Device AI Tutor
MindFlash is an offline flashcard app with a private, on-device AI tutor. The tutor is a local model that runs entirely on your Android phone. Nothing you ask the tutor is uploaded to any server.

What the tutor does
The tutor is a button on every flashcard. Tap it during review to get AI-powered help. Pre-built prompts:
• Explain this card — get a fuller explanation of the concept.
• Why is this wrong? — when you got a card wrong, understand what was wrong.
• Give me a hint — for hard cards during review.
• Make it easier — rephrase the card's answer in plainer language.
• Quiz me on this — generate follow-up questions to test your recall.
All responses are generated locally.
How it works
The tutor is a quantized open-source language model that runs on your phone's CPU/GPU. The default download is ~2.4 GB; a lighter ~1.5 GB tier and a higher-quality ~3.5 GB tier are also available. The model is downloaded once, opt-in, and then lives on your device. The model is not connected to the internet.
When you tap a tutor prompt:
1. The card text and the prompt are fed to the local model.
2. The model generates a response.
3. The response is shown to you in the tutor sheet.
No network call is made. No data is sent to a remote AI service.
Why this matters
Most AI study tools use cloud AI. Every "Explain this card" you ask is on the company's servers. Every weak topic, every wrong answer, every exam-prep pattern — feeds a profile that the company owns.
The on-device tutor is structurally different: there is no server that sees your questions, no log of what you struggle with, no profile being built from your study patterns. The tutor is the only AI tutor that does not watch the student back.
Compatibility
The tutor is opt-in. The app is fully functional without it. The download is a one-time cost.
The app recommends a model tier that fits your device's RAM (6+ GB for the default and lighter tiers, 8+ GB for the quality tier). Review sessions continue to work during tutor generation.
Disable at any time
You can disable the tutor and free the model storage by clearing MindFlash's app data, or by uninstalling the app. The download is not a subscription and is not required to keep the rest of the app working.
