Frequently asked questions
Eight answers to the most common questions about MindFlash.
1. Do I need an account to use MindFlash?
No. MindFlash has no account, no email, no profile. You install the app, you use the app. Your decks, review history, and AI tutor questions are stored locally on your phone. Uninstall the app and the data is gone with it.
2. Does the AI tutor use cloud AI?
No. The AI tutor is a local model that runs entirely on your phone. The default download is ~2.4 GB; a lighter ~1.5 GB tier and a higher-quality ~3.5 GB tier are also available. When you ask "Explain this card" or "Why is this wrong?", the question and the card text are processed by the local model. Nothing is sent to a remote AI service. The tutor is opt-in; the app works without it.
3. How do I import cards from NotebookLM?
Open NotebookLM web, generate flashcards for a notebook, export them as CSV. Transfer the CSV to your phone. Open MindFlash, tap Import, select the file, tap Confirm. The whole import takes 30 seconds. MindFlash reads the two-column CSV directly with no transformation step.
4. Can I import from Anki or Quizlet?
Yes. Both Anki and Quizlet support CSV export. Export your deck as a two-column CSV with no header, then follow the same import flow as NotebookLM. You may need to re-order the columns if the source tool exports with a header row.
5. What is FSRS?
FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) is a more modern spaced-repetition algorithm than SM-2. It learns from your review history per-deck and adjusts card difficulty and stability based on how you actually recall each card. The same algorithm Anki now supports via the FSRS plugin, built into MindFlash by default. Each deck trains its own FSRS instance on your local review history.
6. Does MindFlash work offline?
Yes. Review, FSRS scheduling, and the AI tutor all work offline. The only network call MindFlash makes is the optional AI tutor model download (one-time, opt-in; size depends on the model tier you pick). You can use the app in airplane mode for review and tutor.
7. How much space does the AI tutor take?
Between ~1.5 GB and ~3.5 GB, depending on which of the three model tiers you pick. The app recommends a tier that fits your device's RAM (6+ GB for the default, 8+ GB for the quality tier). The download is one-time, opt-in, and lives on your device. You can disable the tutor and free the space by clearing MindFlash's app data, or by uninstalling the app.
8. Is MindFlash free?
Yes. MindFlash is free on Google Play, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. The product is free by design — no accounts means no subscription billing, no paywall, no upsells.
